COVID BOOSTER

If you are over 70 or clinically vulnerable, you may be getting a call from Newcastle GP Services (NGPS) in the coming months to book your Covid vaccine booster appointment. NGPS work with all 31 GP practices in Newcastle and have been in charge of delivering 200,000 Covid Vaccines since last December. They are helping all practices to book patients in for their appointments so if you get a call from an unknown or withheld number, from someone from NGPS, please be assured that this is a genuine service. The first groups to receive the call will be the most vulnerable and elderly, so please bear with us if you don't receive a call from NGPS soon.

CALLING ALL 16 & 17 YEAR OLDS

You are now eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for upcoming clinic dates, or check out the links listed further down.

Ordering your prescription:

We are strongly advising that patients request their medications online via the app due to increased demand on the phone lines. This can be via our SystmOnline app, the NHS app or the MyGp app. The app will show your list of repeat medications and their due dates for you to order and you can also add a message to the surgery if you have an acute request or a query. You can also change your nominated pharmacy if you wish. Ordering via the app allows you to order your prescription wherever, whenever so it is far more convenient for you. If you are not already set up for your medical care online, please contact the surgery and we will be happy to assist.

How to get your Covid-19 vaccination in Newcastle

All adults over 18 are now eligible for a Covid vaccination, and there are locations across the city where you can be vaccinated either by having an appointment or by visiting a drop-in service.

There are thousands of appointments available every week – if you cannot book a suitable appointment the first time you check it is always best to keep checking.

The drop-in services below can offer you a first and second dose. It is important to remember that you need to have the same dose as your first - so Pfizer and Pfizer/Astra Zeneca/Astra Zeneca. It must also have been at least 8 weeks for your second dose (over 40s) and 12 weeks for under 40s. Your details will be checked when you arrive at the clinic and if you do not meet this criteria you will be turned away.

You can book a covid vaccine online through the national Coronavirus vaccine booking service or by calling 119.

Please click on the below link for more information regarding the vaccine bus and also pop up clinics.

NHS APP/ COVID VACCINATION STATUS/ VACCINE PASSPORT

Patients in England who have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to demonstrate their COVID-19 vaccination status for international travel.

There are two ways to request vaccine status. The easiest and most convenient way is to download the NHS APP however if you do not have a smartphone or are unable to connect to the internet you can receive a paper copy by ringing 119 (as long as you have two doses of the vaccine). This can be posted to you within 5 working days.

Just like a normal passport, make sure to leave plenty of time before you set off on holiday to apply for your vaccine passport.

DO NOT CONTACT YOUR GP SURGERY AS THEY CANNOT PROVIDE YOU WITH PROOF OF VACCINATION.

For more information please visit

 nhs.uk/nhsapp and www.gov.uk/guidance/demonstrating-your-covid-19-vaccination-status-when-travelling-abroad

We have had several enquiries regarding patients not being able to access their covid vaccination status on the NHS APP.

Please ensure you have access to our online services and have selected the option to view your full clinical record. If you do not have access to this you can submit a request online.

If you are experiencing further issues with the NHS APP please submit an enquiry on the NHS APP website and they will contact you directly to assist.

Think Sepsis - Talk Sepsis - Treat Sepsis

Sepsis is a serious complication of an infection.

Without quick treatment, sepsis can lead to multiple organ failure and death.

Although sepsis is often referred to as either blood poisoning or septicaemia, these terms refer to the invasion of bacteria into the bloodstream.

Sepsis can affect multiple organs or the entire body, even without blood poisoning or septicaemia.

Sepsis can also be caused by viral or fungal infections, although bacterial infections are by far the most common cause.

In England every year there is...

123,000 cases of sepsis

37,000 deaths

70% of these cases start in the community.
