Infection Control Statement 2025
In line with Department of Health, The Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice on Prevention and Control of infection and its related guidance (2015) a practice statement will be generated each year.
It will summarise:
- Any infection transmission incidents and any action that is taken.
- Details of infection control audits undertaken, and actions taken.
- Details of infection control risk assessments undertaken.
- Details of staff training
- Any review and update of policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Update on Covid 19.
The report demonstrates the commitment of Betts Ave Medical Centre to deliver high quality and safe care to patients, and uses effective prevention and control of infection to ensure the safety of patient, staff and visitors.

Infection Transmission Incidents:
No reported significant events of transmission of infections in the last 12 months. However, the following incidents were logged.
- Out of date blood bottle was used, this was noted by the lab, an apology issued to the patient verbally, no delay in treatment. Bloods were retaken. Staff reminded to check dates when stocking rooms and ensuring stock rotation within storage rooms.
- Needlestick Injury during vaccination clinic, needlestick policy was followed. It was a clean nee, no infection risk and no action needed.

An annual waste management audit is performed.

Risk assessment for the safe use of cleaning disinfection products, used by the cleaning team at Betts Ave Site;

- Offsite consultations with patients, equipment and sharps;

- Needles/ Sharps Injuries
- Invasive procedures (smear tests)
Staff Training
Staff will receive training in Infection Prevention and Control relative to their job role.
Infection prevention and control policies:
Infection protection control procedures reviewed annually and current practice and guidance changes. Policies are available for all staff on GPteamnet. New Policy and updates are communicated at non-clinical and clinical team meetings.
